Diana Hrabosky: Creative Diversity in Colored Pencil & Paint

“Some artists develop a very distinctive style, but I have yet to do that. Although, I have been told by artist friends that my colored pencil technique is recognizable. My focus for this exhibit is to showcase the diversity of my artworks.

Colored pencil is my choice for crafting detail, including highlighting texture found in everyday items such as glass, wood, metal, and rust. I build my design by laying down light layers of color, usually between four and eight or nine, often mixing hues on the page as I go. It is a very slow process and takes many hours to complete.

Acrylic paint is very versatile but has its challenges, like drying very quickly. I’m drawn to texture and create those effects with paint and acrylic mediums or with other media, like paper, sand, textiles, glass, or metal. Once you add another medium, like sand, to the paint, the artwork becomes “mixed media” (not multi-media). The abstract style of my paintings creates a nice balance to the realism in my colored pencil pieces.”
