Medium: Photography
This exhibition is about the back country of northern Romania. At year-end, people don bear skins and parade to honor beasts that have roamed the Trotus River Valley for generations. The images document a day when Cosmina Neamtu and her partner, Bogdan-Andrei Berbece, became bears. When they wrap themselves in “skins,” they are transformed into the very animals whose fur, claws and heads they inhabit. They act out complex bear-like movements meant to discourage evil and welcome the new year. https://www.mandrewsimages.com/new-page-1mandrewsimages.com
