“My name is Zach Gunty, and I’m the founder of Pretty Average Photography, a creative studio based in Raleigh, North Carolina. Originally from the suburbs of Chicago, I bring a Midwestern grit and curiosity to my work as a self-taught photographer and videographer. My journey into visual storytelling wasn’t paved by formal education, but by relentless experimentation, a deep love for honest moments, and a drive to create despite—and often because of—my color blindness.
Being color-blind has never felt like a limitation. Instead, it challenges me to focus on what truly matters: composition, emotion, light, and movement. It pushes me to see differently—to seek out nuance, texture, and energy in every frame I capture. My work leans into authenticity over perfection, guided by a belief that beauty often lives in the unscripted and the in-between.”
